2017 Round 2 News

Mixed bag of results but plenty to like

The season got underway in perfect conditions at Carey Bulleen, we had a big opening round with 4 teams at home and one away.  There was a mix on nerves and excitement with plenty of new Panthers making their debut's, in particular our WOMEN'S TEAM.

It was a mixed day, great wins by the Unders and the Women, just reward for the hard work they have both put in in the preseason.  Conversely it was a disappointing afternoon for the Seniors going down to Scotch.  After a very competitive 1st quarter we lost our way and allowed Scotch to take control of the game.  Whilst we incurred 2 early game ending injuries it was the bad kicking in the 3rd quarter that halted our chances.  Then the storm hit, the wind changed directions and we couldn't bridge the gap, to be fair Scotch deserved the win. The 2nds played great football, pushing Scotch all the way, finally going down by 2 goals, great to see a much improved team on the park and greater depth.  I reckon a win for the 2nds is very close.  Hopefully likewise for the seniors.  Our 3rds had a tough first up clash away to De La Salle, De La are a very good team and showed that in beating our 3rds.  I know we will bounce back as the 3rds spirit is good under coach Dave Pocock.

Dunshea was in mint condition, so too the other grounds, we need to turn it into a big home ground advantage, that's a challenge because its so good and the opposition loves the surface and space, shame we don't train on it as that would help as well.

Enjoy some great shots of our mighty women and their first ever game of football at Old Carey v Ivanhoe AFC.  The VAFA had 36 clubs fielding 42 women's team play R1, that's approx 1300 women, so proud our ladies were part of it and got a nice win as well.

Looking to this weekend we are predominantly away.
