Winter has arrived

and the stakes are getting bigger

Winter is here and it’s turned cold.  Mid-year challenges for all teams.  Unders and 2nds both flying, these two are the success story so far.  We have talked about the long-time health of the club being driven by the success of these two teams in particular.  Looking at the successful clubs, all have well preformed 2nds and Unders, it drives the depth and succession.  We are certainly on the way and praise must go to the coaches and support staff who are driving the football programs for these 2 teams.

Let’s not forget the seniors, women’s and 3rds.  Seniors are on the improve, played great football against Old Brighton, in the game till the finals minutes only to allow OB to slip away with 3 quick goals.  The signs are good but depth will be tested as we do have some injuries.  The Women have been gallant, they got the chance to bench mark themselves against ladder leader Old Camberwell and didn’t disgrace.  It’s a development season, whilst results are important and the motivation, 2017 is an introductory season, enabling a number of the ladies to experience football and fast track their learning.  You have to admire the 3rds, Coach Dave Pocock is a terrific motivator and is ensuring the team turns up each week and has a real crack.  3rds is a tough gig, so well done to both players and coaches.  They are vital to the club fabric and ensure we are able to provide a game of football across all levels.

So to this weekend, vital games loom for all teams.  Seniors in a must win against Fitzroy.  Fitzroy are one game ahead so it will be massive, put simply we MUST WIN.  2nds will be tested, they have been all conquering, but injuries will test their depth.  With the break next week, it will allow a number of our boys a chance to get the rest and recover.  The Ladies host Ivanhoe in a return game, OC won last round and should do so again at home on Spicer.  Unders venture to Sportscover to take on OM’s.  The Unders squad will be tested as the Seniors have 2 of their guns playing, ladder position suggest an OC win but OM’s can’t be underestimated.  3rds are away to Fitzroy, hard to pick a winner here, both teams similarly placed.

With next weekend being a bye round, get your OC fix by heading out to Bulleen and cheering on the Panthers in our vital Round 8 encounters.
