On the road this week

after 4 great home wins

4 wins and a week off to smell the roses before its back into football mode and more hard work.  Great effort by the seniors to power away from AJAX last round.  We seem to have a real challenge getting on top of AJAX, you have to admire their tenacity.  It was great to be rewarded at last and gives much needed confidence.  Massive games next 2 weeks with Peninsula and Parkdale, they too will be setting themselves for these games as  we are all in the drop zone and will be desperate.

Great effort by the 2nds to get up, another raft of changes makes it a tough coaching assignment, no continuity.  Unders did well and are back equal top with 5 teams!  Women redeemed their early season one point loss to St Bedes with a 12 goal win this time.  And teh 3rds were valiant in defeat, playing the Sunday AJAX team is a tough ask.

Cookie's lunch was very well received with Andrew Leonard giving up a lot of social media tricks around AFL football, we had 60 attend with plenty of parents and a few from AJAX as well.

This week we have 4 away games and 1 at Bulleen.  It's that time of the year where injuries and travel kick in, and we are no exception.  Plenty of the U19's have headed to Europe so we will again be relying on the YR12's to top up.  I'm told we will be playing our 41st senior player on Saturday and its only R12, lets hope Peninsula are in the same boat!

We need you all to stick with us right now as the next few weeks may well define our season and immediate future, nothing short of staying in Prem B is a must!

So come out to Bulleen today and cheer on our players, there will be lost of footy to watch:

Seniors/2nds               AWAY        v          PENINSULA                (11.40am and 2.00pm)

Women                        AWAY        v          OLD CAMBERWELL   (9.20am)

U19's                           AWAY        v          OM's                             (2.00pm)

3rds                             HOME       v           DE LA SALLE               (11.40am)

Panthers star for the VAFA

Sam Cust and Sam Crocker starred for the VAFA in its big 80 point win over VIC country at Frankston Oval last Saturday.  Both boys played their roles and combined on several occasions.  Interesting to note Old Xavs, Brighton, St Bernards and St Bedes were among established clubs with no player representation.  Very proud of our two players and the ongoing recognition  OC players get in being able to acquit themselves at the higher level.  It could have been easy to say no to the VAFA's invite given we are in a relegation battle for now, however the club has adopted the philosophy that where ever possible have our players play for the VAFA and in doing so promote of club and culture.

Well done Crock and Custy, so too the VAFA!!

MURPH brings up a Ton

The club is thrilled to advise of another milestone with Jacob Murphy playing his 100th game for the club this Saturday at Peninsula.  You couldn't find a more club orientated player than Jacob, his passion for the OC and commitment are unquestioned.

Jacob stepped into leadership early days at OC, with a lead rill in the U19's in his 1st season.  Trevor Rowe was quick to give him a game in the seniors and Jacob has never looked back.  Jacob combines his passion for cricket (Camberwell Magpies) with his professional career and somehow fits in a footy preseason with no fuss.

The club is immensely proud of Jacob, roll on the next ton!

Handys farewell

to his beloved scoreboard

It was fitting that Handsy was up in the Graham Yallop Scoreboard to churn the handles in our vital win over AJAX last round, word is the scoreboard is about to get an electronic facelift over the T2 break.  The school intends keeping the structure in place and installing a new digital scoreboard in front of the existing one.  Sad to say farewell as Handsy has perched himself up in the scoreboard every home game and in doing so had to relearn his times table.  No one could beat John with the speed, presentation and accuracy of scores, especially when the OC is leading.  Cant wait to see how he handles the digital stuff!

The Pink Panther

is back in town

The players award a player each week to wear the prized PINK TUTU in recognition of an outstanding week either on the track, around the club or on game day.

This week's worthy recipient is:

GEORGE CURNOW.

George is in his 1st season at OC having crossed over from Uni Blues.  George is playing great footy at FF in the seniors and has fitted in fantastically, pink suits him don't you think!

Thick and Thin Round is set for its 3 year return this weekend as the VAFA player-driven initiative aims to continue to help raise awareness of men’s and women’s mental health issues and normalise those concerns by encouraging teammates to start a conversation.

Funds raised this year will go directly to supporting this partnership in an effort to improve mental health literacy across the VAFA.  Home teams will wear navy blue socks and away team sky blue.  Players from all clubs are encouraged to follow Thick and Thin on social media and use the hashtag #StartTheConvo.

See you at the football this weekend
