Custy wins 2016 B&F

We said farewell to 2016 in grand style, 180 packed in to the Boulevard Receptions in Kew to acknowledge our award winners, extend thanks to everyone involved and most importantly have some fun.  It was great to have such a large crowd attend despite the tough season.

There was a lot of positivity in the room with the award winners saying how keen and excited they are in getting back together and work on an improved season in 2017.  There were many highlights, but the biggest celebration came after both Steve Freemantle and Joel Rice confirmed they would play on in 2017.  Both wonderful clubmen and exceptional footballers, I know the coaches are delighted to have them playing and helping in the fast tracking of our young list.  Sadly we say farewell to Jules Rowe, Jules wasn’t going to play on in 2016 but came to the coaches’ aid and was a great contributor.  Jules has had a wonderful football journey and we were privileged to have him play at Old Carey.  Finally we inducted Matt Baker as a life member, Matt got to his 150th early in the season, hurt his back during the game and wasn’t able to play again.  Matt’s life membership is well deserved and I know the extended OC community is delighted to acknowledge Matt's well earnt life membership.

Major sponsor recommits for 2017

There was more good news about at the B&F with our Major Sponsor, the great John Hands announcing his sponsorship renewal for 2017.  Handsy has been our major sponsor for the last 3 years and is keen to go again.  His business is YAMZAR, supplying a range of products to both aged care and hospitality industries.  Handsy is  star and loved by all at the OC, so if you have any contacts in these industries shoot John a call on 0407 545 387.

We love the Harp of Erin Hotel

We signed on to the Harp’s sponsorship program at the start of the season and will reap the rewards.  Not only is the Harp very generous with it sponsorship it rewards loyalty and we just banked a further $1500 by using our loyalty cards in 2016.  So remember to keep using them as the program continues, we get a 10 cent rebate for every $ spent.  Big thanks to Harp Manager Peter Croft; we look forward to many more sessions at the Harp.  Great allocation, bars and food.

Recruits start rolling in

No time to rest, Taz and Ockie supported by Paul Gaff have been busy; we are thrilled to announce the return of two very handy footballers to the cub in JORDAN CEPPI and SAM CROCKER.  The boys are excited in returning to the OC and lead the on field development of our young playing list.  Crock has signed on to start up a building apprenticeship and is ready to now combine his career ambitions with footy.  Cepp returns to the OC having starred in the EFL at Templestowe and Norwood..  STAY TUNED as I reckon there will be a few more exciting announcements to follow.

The Bear is in the Chair

Thrilled to announce the appointment of Sam “Bear” Hassett as our 2nds coach for season 2017.  Bear jumped at the opportunity to coach having made the tough call to hang up the boots.  And, he has already secured an assistant; Rob “Chief” Newton will join Bear.  Rob and Sam have a wealth of footy knowledge and continue our tradition of appointing coaches from within the club.  I know we have made a great choice here and the players already very excited to play under Sam and Rob.

Players pledge their commitment to 2017

Other than the retirement of club champion Jules Rowe the coaches are very confident of retaining our entire playing list.  Many of the playing group are already doing private training with several up early and doing 6am player driven boxing session.  With the return of WILL WALKER from England and some injury free players in ZANDA ADAM, JAMES KING, MORGAN EVANS, MICHAEL THOMPSON, WILL NICHOLS, AYDEN HROVAT and others the list is looking in good shape.  Whilst we know there is a lot of work to be done the early signs are encouraging so too the enthusiasm of the players.

Pre-Season set to kick off

We are locked and loaded to get back on the track for the pre-Christmas training block of 12 sessions, start Monday 14th November and finishing Wednesday 21st December at Carey Bulleen.

OCGFC 2016 AGM

Pleased to announce to all of our paid up members and life members the club’s AGM will be held on Tuesday 29th November, time and venue to be confirmed.  I would encourage all members to join us at the AGM, we are very keen to enlist you as we set our focus on a vastly improved season in 2017.

Apprenticeship needed recent AFL player/former Carey student

We need you HELP as we are in with a good chance of securing a recently delisted AFL player and former Carey student.  Ideally an apprenticeship: building/carpentry.  This is a genuine opportunity and would be a great outcome for both the player and the club.  So please ask about and call  OC’s head of recruiting, Paul Gaff on 0412 550 230.

Reckon there will be so more exciting announcements shortly so STAY TUNNED.
