Round 4 News

 2nds, Womens and Unders shine

Seniors getting closer

Despite the hard fought loss of the Seniors to St Bernards the signs continue to look on the improve at the club with wins to the 2nds, women and Unders.  Plus there was vast improvement in our 3rds.

We hosted St Bernards at Bulleen, the weather was reasonably kind with Dunshea magnificent.  Cookie had his kitchen trading with Des Tuddenham taking us back to the heady days when the Pies played at Vic Park and football was a lot simpler.

The Two's registered their 2nd win in a row, something that hasn't been achieved for some considerable time, so the stage would be set for a cracking seniors game.  Seniors played improved football and matched the Snow Dogs for most of the game only allowing them to take control for a short period of the 2nd quarter, in the end that was the difference.  The Unders held off Fitzroy which is a fine effort given they field 2 teams and we played their better team.

The women continue to make huge steps with the VAFA posting on their website this week:

A 14-goal to none first half secured a massive Round 3 Old Carey win against Bulleen Templestowe at Spicer Oval, Carey Sports Complex. With 14 different Old Carey goal scorers for the day, they left their opponent scoreless and ran away to a 175-0 point win. Old Carey’s Clare Hollebone was amongst the gold scorers and proved to be one of, if not, the best on ground.

So with the Seniors sitting at zero and 3 this weeks game v old rival, Parkdale Vultures looms as massive.  Both teams are yet to register wins in 2017 so it will be game on.  The 2nds play similar placed Vulture 2nds whilst the 3rds host Parkdale at Bulleen.  The Unders travel to St Bedes to renew acquaintances so too the Women, a nice rod trip bay-side trip to test themselves again.

So whatever you have planned for Saturday get it done early and get on the road down to Mentone and Parkdale, I know the players will appreciate the support.

Women's update

After months of planning, practice matches, Lightning Premierships and grading rounds, the inaugural VAFA Wilson Women’s competition proper is about to start.  The 40-team comp now will consist of one Premier section and four development divisions.

Having won 2 from 3 grading games we find ourselves in Development Division 2 together with Collegians, Ivanhoe, Oakleigh, Old Camberwell, ST Bedes/Mentone Tigers, UHS-W and Yarra Old Grammarians.

The VAFA has determined all teams carry over their match points from the first three rounds into the next phase and the Development Divisions will all reset their percentages to zero. The teams entering Premier from the Grading Groups will have their percentage reset to zero. The remaining teams in Premier will keep their percentages.

Where are we this weekend

Plenty of activity in and around the club

It was a great success with 60 attending Colombo's of Balwyn for breakfast and gaining some great insight into the lives of the Wallace clan, interviewed magnificently by the master MC and past Old Carey player, Ian Cohen.  Hoping we can build on this in 2018 and get more of you along......stay tuned!
