Massive games loom at Bulleen

3 wins last week

need more this week

Round 13 already and the seniors are still in a relegation dog fight, the ladders tells the story, 4 wins a game clear of Parkdale who we play tomorrow, need a win and retain our solid percentage.   The win will put us 2 games clear of them, with St Bernard's next week followed by Fitzroy, both away!

Last week we had 6 changes, tough to manage/cover although with the influx of youth and a sense that we should win gave the players great confidence.  Peninsula were valiant but in the end we did what we had to do and won, boosted our % and no injuries, with players returning this week we can be confident again.  However Parkdale played very well early on in the year and jumped us early so we better be switched on from the opening.

The 2nds had a great win boosting their % and getting invaluable fitness into the squad. There is a good mix of youth and experience in the team and finals are a definite possibility, it's up to the players how hard they want it and commitment they make.  Having the 2nds doing so well is really good for the senior squad, greater numbers at training and competition for spots, we haven't had that in recent years.

The women's team found ladder leaders, Old Camberwell a bit too good, again the big ground was a challenge, all the same they again battled on.  This week is massive for them as they sit 4th and play Oakleigh who are equal with them in 5th place, with the next being the final round a win here will most likely mean finals, that would be nice reward for our girls who have been fantastic.

The Unders showed OM's how well they can play, coming from nearly 5 goals down at 3/4 time to win by 2 goals, sure we had some quality ins from the School but its great to have this group winning and allowing their parents to enjoy some Carey success.  This week will be tough, St Bedes, ladder leaders and schools back!

Finally the 3rds came up short again, I'm told they have given 85 players a game of football so far this season, that an amazing number.  This week they are in with a real chance, playing away to cellar dweller, Parkdale, funny team spots were filled by Tuesday!

With the cold winds of winter upon us the players really need your support so please make every effort to get along to our matches.  It's getting to the serious end of the season!

Brus becomes the latest to taste Senior Football

Great to see another U19 get a call up and do well, Wade Brusnahan made his debut at Peninsula in fine style kicking a goal with his 1st kick at senior level.  Wade showed plenty and will no doubt become a regular senior player soon.  Joining Wade was Danyon Reinbold up from the unders too.  Danyon made his senior debut in R1 v Scotch before returning to the Unders and got a well deserved call up.  These guys showed plenty and looked at home.  Exciting times ahead especially with Henry Chapman well advanced in his recovery and Will Nichols now an established senior player (when he gets back from Europe!!).  Brus was our 42nd player to play seniors in 2017, as already reported injuries have again hit hard.

In a funny way the trip down to Peninsula despite the distance was great for the club's spirit.  Being so far the boys made a pact during the week to get down and support each of the teams throughout the entire day, that meant we had plenty of support there and generating lots of OC presence.  It really made a difference and I know both the coaches and players loved it.  Lets pack out Bulleen this Saturday as Parkdale looms as another massively defining game.
