2 great wins

reinforces why we play footy

I wish I could report a cleans weep from last weekend, sadly no.  But I can say I witnessed 2 amazing wins that will live long on the memory.  Mind you so too will the memory of that WIND, horrendous!!

Firstly our might Women's team.........

They played all over UHS-VU, last game of the season winner goes on to play finals whilst for the loser it's season over.  The girls had the early one, a 9.20 am kick off. This meant a couple of very handy school girls would be unavailable, not to be deterred the team agreed to get to Parkville early, can you believe it arriving at 7.45 am!  Not only the first there but in doing so woke up some very grumpy homeless people sheltering in the toilet block.  By the time the game started it was howling and we lost the toss, meaning the girls would kick into the wind.  That mattered little as they romped out to a 3 goal to zip lead at quarter time going on to win by approx 40 points and keeping UHS-VU to 2 points.  It was an amazing win and great reward for them all.  To think this all started 9 months ago with 8 girls training, all praise the players and coaches.  Greg and Em have done a wonderful job, very well supported by Kiara and the magnificently lead by Tev, our captain.

The pictures below show a very focused quarter time address and the post game celebrations realising they are into FINALS

 And now the Seniors........

The photo below really sums it up, an away win at the Snakepit when no one rated us and we played unrelenting football in very tough conditions against a team that thought we would be easy beats.  12 months ago I had to sit and listen to their supporters call as a rabble out at Bulleen.  Sure they beat us that day but that accusation stuck in our minds and it was there on Saturday to spur us on, end result we came away victorious.  Funny how the away beer tastes that much sweeter when you win.  Immensely proud of our coaches, leaders and the senior squad.  We kicked into the gale 1st quarter, held our nerve and limited the Bernies scoring, 3/8 to 0/0.  For the remaining 3 quarters we kicked 10/8 to their 4/12.  Simply we played cleaner, smarter and more determined football, handled the conditions much better and got the win.  Rabble I don't think so!!

Have a look at Ockie below just after the celebration song, reckon he was a bit pumped!!

What's on this  week..............plenty

It may be a Bye round for the seniors and 2nds but there is still plenty of Panther footy to get to, all very important games

3rds home: 11.40am v Monash Blues

U19's away: 2.00pm at Crawford Oval, Melbourne Uni v Uni Blues

Women home: 2.00pm 1st Semi Final v Ivanhoe AFC

Please make the effort especially to get to Bulleen to cheer on the girls, could be some more history made with a Women's finals win over Ivanhoe, time will tell.

Another VAFA Rising star nomination

Danyon Reinbold

More recognition for our younger Panthers this time a big congratulations to Danyon Reinbold for his award.  Danyon is in his 1st season at the OC having played school football in 2016.   Danyon did a massive pre season and was rewarded early with a senior game R1 v Scotch.   That followed a stint back with the Unders where Danyon played great consistent football.  He got his call up 3 weeks ago and has quickly re adjusted to the pace of senior football making it as one of our on ball brigade.  Danyon is one of several senior inductees this season and like all of his team mates is loving the challenges and definitely the future of our club.

See you at the football this weekend
